A day trip to Bibury

A day trip to Bibury

Bibury is a small village on the River Coln, described by William Morris as "the most beautiful village in England". Its best-known sight is Arlington Row, a terrace of old weavers' cottages cared for by the National Trust.

What to see

  • Arlington Row and Rack Isle, the water meadow opposite.
  • The River Coln and its trout.
  • St Mary's Church.

When to go

Bibury is tiny and gets very busy, especially on summer weekends. Arrive early in the morning or come midweek or in autumn.

Parking and respect

Parking is very limited. Use designated spaces only, never block lanes or driveways, and remember Arlington Row is a row of private homes.

Getting there

From Swindon station it is roughly 35–40 minutes by car (around 22 miles). Combine it with Cirencester, Burford or Bourton-on-the-Water.
